The Iconic Puzzle Game Couldn't Triumph at This Gaming Ceremony — Another Award Type Could Fix That

As any prominent awards ceremony approaches, you'll find a clamor for the addition additional classifications to acknowledge unsung work and satisfy the passions of fans with niche passions.

My colleague has already made advocating for terror-themed awards. That would rule. Equally deserving are strategy board titles, representing a passionate advocate's mission. However, I must insist when I prioritize just as with other single-minded supporters, I have a cast-iron argument for why my demand stands as crucial above others. Here's the proposal: It's essential to create an award type for logic-based games.

Categorizing Game Types

Organizing artistic expressions defies precise measurement; it remains highly personal, and it will always start arguments concluding with vague boundaries. It's understandable that movie academies avoid this approach. Yet it remains a necessary evil for the industry of video games, that demonstrate such variety they barely qualify as a single art form.

To recognize the complete range of achievement in video games to gain proper attention, and to ensure all game types to receive proper recognition, classification by type becomes crucial.

Existing Game Classification System

Leading game ceremonies offer these classifications covering Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Collectively, these six categories effectively encompass many game types, making space possible for numerous titles.

Not so for brain-teasing titles. There’s simply nowhere for their placement. Consider three of outstanding current releases, all very different: structural challenges from a specific release, intense tile-matching in a different title, engaging interpersonal challenges of a third title. Which classification works between these six categories? Unfortunately, nowhere.

The Representation Problem

Many instances occur excellent brain-teasers launched regularly lacking appropriate categories in entertainment awards, unless they happen to qualify classification types such as Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging independent game categories.

  • One classic puzzle game received no recognition in any category during that awards season
  • Another imaginative release was excluded that year
  • Well-received sorting experience was overlooked in 2021
  • Only a few puzzle games managed to sneak into independent or mobile categories

Value of Brain-Teasers

Frequently they represent small games, yet the craft of the puzzle game is of massive significance. Iconic mobile puzzle games stand as most engaged experiences in the world continuing this trend for many years.

The famous puzzle experience rivals famous sandbox experiences competing to become highest-selling title ever; it additionally competes for top gaming experience. Logic titles represent cornerstones within interactive entertainment, and engaging with almost every other genre.

The Solution and Justification

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter such difficulty. One could readily select multiple candidates interesting, varied, worthy titles annually without trouble — actually, with challenge, given the need to exclude numerous deserving experiences.

Restating the point, these represent titles that otherwise have no home during prominent ceremonies. Logic title developers are working at the challenging frontier of video game design, producing among most fundamental forms of the video game form. Just like movie stunt professionals, they merit acknowledgment. Don't make them wait 35 years.
