The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Announce a Latest Divinity, Calling it Their Biggest RPG Yet

The buzz surrounding The Game Awards has been intense, notably after host Geoff Keighley posted a puzzling photo of a strange statue. The secret has now been solved. The acclaimed developer is working on a brand-new Divinity game.

Announced as Divinity, the game was debuted with a bold trailer that included memorable imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the literal descent into chaos.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. Larian warned that a third Original Sin game to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not currently in development.

That said, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This choice of words implies that the team might be building a faster-paced experience rather than another tactical title. For now, this is speculation, as only a announcement clip is available.

What Makes Divinity Special

The Divinity series is highly rated and arguably it pioneered the contemporary revival of deep computer role-playing games. These games are known for intricate stories, branching plots, and deep class systems—elements that later found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is familiar fare, what makes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency given to the player.

In contrast to modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is full of niche playthroughs you can achieve with a particular class or origin with a unique decision path.

The series is also notoriously open-ended, allowing players to improvise in narrative and gameplay. Virtually all objectives can be solved in a variety of manners, often in surprising fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you heeded something an animal companion shared.
  • Or, you could bypass a challenge by teleporting a glob of lava in a inventive way.

More to Come

It is this design philosophy that lead fans and critics to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games of all time. Now, the RPG community can look forward to more where that came from in this legendary franchise.
