The artist has handed over the full amount of his twenty-five thousand pound honor winnings to the trust for venues, which operates to preserve the Britain's independent live music spots.

The star was presented with the prize on mid-October as his latest record the album was named the outstanding release of the last 12 months.

The musician has chosen to give the cash to the Music Venues Trust, in acknowledgment of the essential function small stages had in his early career.

"I wouldn't be doing what I am doing today if it hadn't been for all the shows I performed around the region, and further afield, when I was just getting going," stated the artist. "These locations are iconic, but they are facing challenges."

From early 2023 onward, at least 150 of these venues have ceased operations – approximately one-sixth of the total UK scene.

In the last year, major artists such as Pulp, Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all aided the MVT in its initiatives to keep the scene afloat, by adding a minor surcharge to their ticket prices, which supports local stages.

Fender also took part, raising more than £100,000 on his 2024 arena tour to help thirty-eight small stages across Britain.

These funds assisted spaces that were facing possible closure due to difficulties caused by floods, blazes and personal losses, as well as regulatory hurdles, legal disputes and neighbor objections.

Some locations obtained monetary aid in improving amenities and gear that helped musicians and concertgoers.

"The idea that money from performances in large arenas helps the local stages, where it all starts for artists like me, is just logical," Sam Fender has commented.

The musician is not the first artist to donate his Mercury Prize funds to charitable organizations.

When Pulp won the award in the mid-90s for their record their work, frontman Cocker stated that the act would give their winnings to the organization the charity.

During 2002, musician she shared her award across multiple good causes, like the children's charity and a Sickle Cell charity.

"I also gave a grand to the center, to their classes, because I practiced gymnastics when I was younger and they needed new equipment," Ms Dynamite told the media.

Previously, Ezra Collective donated their prize money to the local youth club that supported their band, as well as other independent music bodies.

Additionally winners that year the group contributed their award to a multiple sclerosis charity after a close contact was identified with the condition.

"Receiving the award was quite enough," stated vocalist Small. "The cash was the bonus but we could do without the cherry, because we had the cake. So our success affected somebody else's life."

In the past week, the trust revealed it had protected a couple of small stages in that region, by placing them under community ownership.

One venue in the city and the second in Bristol were bought under the Own Our Venues scheme, which is backed by the arts council and enthusiasts who buy "ownership units" in the venues.
